Three in twenty firms are closed permanently according to the July 2020 survey done by the World Bank with the National Economic and Development Authority and Department of Finance, which assessed the impact of COVID-19 on businesses. As more and more workers became jobless, an opportunity presented itself as demand for online work rose. But our old notion for this has in a way shifted. When one who does online jobs then just did so for extra income, this is now the new employment platform. While many lost their jobs from the pandemic, more turned to online opportunities for the much-needed income. An increase in hiring for call center agents and virtual assistants was drastically observed in the first six months while the world fought off the economic impact of Covid.
As companies folded up one by one, those who made it turned to remote employment. Here, one who is previously working full-time at a company with an office can take the leap to become a remote employee. Technically, a remote employee is someone who is employed by a company but works outside of a traditional office environment. This could mean working from a local co-working space, from home, at a coffee shop, or in a city across the world as virtual assistants, content writers, online entrepreneurs, and a host of other similarly situated jobs. Because remote work is still a relatively new concept in the professional world, it is often referred to interchangeably with ‘telecommuting’ or ‘telework’. The latter means that an employee might be working on-site some of the time but might never go to the office.
Others explore remote employment and similar possible job opportunities as such will allow them to work in the safety of their homes even while a pandemic is raging outside. With technology advancing at a faster rate than ever before, old concerns like communication and productivity tracking have been eradicated, and more companies are looking into offering remote work as an option for their employees.
As the pandemic also continues, remote work is in fact highly practical and becoming more common in a multitude of industries. Among the most expected are those in technology or freelancing but even in education, healthcare and law, remote jobs can now be found in nearly any industry.
To navigate this new field, we start off first by finding previous employers who are willing to shift to this kind of work arrangement. If you’re looking for a remote job, there’s never been a better time than now to research your options. First, we have to use resources like our professional networks, remote job boards, and a list of fully distributed companies to begin our search. One might never know what opportunities await. Even if there’s a company hiring content writers in New York and you happen to be in Asia, this isn’t a problem anymore as long as one has a stable internet connection and can communicate well with the employer.
With the advent of remote employment, offshore staffing services have helped more companies around the world operate efficiently and effectively. More importantly, this could pay off if one is interested in living a more flexible lifestyle or would want to pursue a new way of thinking about personal and professional growth. As we look into how remote employment could work for everyone else, we are also opening new avenues for today’s thriving industries.
If qualified, one can start or continue a career in customer support, information technology, consultancy plus diverse options to land a job as a software architect, DevOps engineer, graphic designer, web illustrator, writer or sales representative. The list of choices is quite long. In addition, remote employment allows you to choose to work permanently or on a part-time basis.
Since 2007, many international firms for this purpose have helped thousands of people all over the globe establish remote working careers with more than 2,000 employers from around the world.
Such firms can be searched online as these provide online jobs for remote workers and aims to establish good working relationships between the staff and the clients. Unlike other online job platforms, these companies have an in-house staff ready to help with queries and provide support whenever needed. They take good care of home-based workers through comprehensive contracts, client-hunting, skills development programs, benefits, and more.
What is to gain than from being a remote worker? First off, one gets security and peace of mind. You get to work within the confines of your home and need not travel or go through daily commutes. This translates to gaining one month of time back every year from time lost commuting to and from the office when having a regular job.
Next, city salaries, wherever you’re located, is what you’d receive commensurate with your work. Some firms even negotiate on your behalf for pay increases. Importantly, remote working helps one find meaningful and secure working options suited to the lifestyle we want.
While most job-seekers are facing difficulties right now, a lot remain hopeful that they will be gainfully employed through remote working even in the midst of this pandemic.
